Schooling by day in dark holes of rocky reefs and seawalls to 15 feet; young in tidal pools and brackish water.  Feeds upon planktonic crustaceans and small fishes.  Attains 9.5 inches.  Red Sea east to the Tropical Eastern Pacific, excluding Hawaii.
