Prefers cool (60-70F)
waters
around the Main Hawaiian Islands below the thermocline in excess of 150
feet. It may be seen in shallower water around the upper Northwestern Hawaiian Islands.
Tan with white fin margins, mouth, and dimples. One of few morays
known to have venomous, finely-serrated teeth. Attains 40 inches.
Recorded at scattered locations from Central Japan to Hawai'i, New Caledonia,
and Tahiti. Formerly known as Gymnothorax hepaticus.
