FANTAIL FILEFISH
'ō'ili 'uwi 'uwi
Rare on
reefs at any depth where it feeds upon algae and small
invertebrates. This species experiences boom-or-bust population
cycles, the last major influx occurring in the late 1980's. Gold to cream with
irregular black spots and lines and orange tail with a black and yellow margin.
Attains 7 inches. Endemic to Hawai'i.
