Inhabits eutrophic (algae-laden) bodies of fresh water, introduced to Hawaii by Asian immigrants in the late 1800's.  Ornamental Koi are derived from this species.  The fish from Kaua'i may have been washed out to sea during a flash flood.  Attains at least 47 inches and 88 pounds.  Native to Europe & Asia and widely naturalized and raised in aquaculture.
