An endangered species rarely seen at scuba depths
where it has been severely depleted due to fishing and slow growth
rate. Feeds upon fish, small sharks, and lobster.
Cylindrical with a depressed head and small eyes, grayish-brown with
white blotches and black dots, juveniles yellowish with black-lined
fins. Attains at least 8 feet and 600 pounds. Red Sea to
Japan, Hawai'i, and
Pitcairn. |
