Locally common schooling fish of estuaries and coastal waters.  Waifs are occasionally spotted in Hawaii.  Body streamlined with prominent black spot on the upper 1/3 of the gill cover.  Attains 22 inches.  Santa Cruz Island, CA south to Peru.  Formerly known as Carangoides caballus.
