HAWAIIAN TENPOUNDER     'awa 'aua, 'awa 'awa      Kara-iwashi

Uncommon in shallow bays and harbors where it feeds upon other fishes.  Elongate body with large eyes and mouth.  Leaps like a tarpon when hooked.  The dry bony flesh is seldom eaten except as fishcake.  Attains at least 24 inches and 22 pounds.  Eastern Indian Ocean to Japan, Hawaii, and Polynesia.
