Locally common just below the surface in coastal waters where it feeds upon algae and plankton.  Its soft flesh is processed into fish paste and steamed to make fishcake.  An important species in aquaculture throughout Asia since it tolerates brackish water.  Attains 59 inches.  Red Sea to Japan, Hawaii, French Polynesia, Los Angeles, and the Galapagos.
