Very common on reefs at any depth.  Rounded snout, males with a pale green cheek, females gray brown with pale bars and contrasting caudal peduncle.  Female pattern similar to S. schlegeli.  Attains 19 inches.  Indonesia to east through Micronesia and Fiji.
