Lives near the ocean floor from 100 to 2400 feet throughout warm and temperate portions of the Indo-Pacific & Eastern Pacific.  An excellent food fish usually caught by trawling, rarely by hook and line.  Attains 28 inches and nearly 7 pounds.  The specimen above weighed 6 lbs 10 oz., a Hawaii State record.
