Family
Gesneriaceae
African Violet Family
In Hawaii this family prefers shady wet valleys or bogs, and is represented by at least 53
endemic 'species' of Cyrtandra,
or Ha'iwale, many of which exist in a single or a few
contiguous valleys. A number of 'species' are very plastic and
undoubdtedly the result of gradual differentiation and hybridization where
distinct forms overlap in range. Identifications are tentative. |
