Entacmaea medusivora

Jellyfish Lake, Palau, 8 feet

JELLY-EATING ANEMONE

Restricted to Kakaban Lake, Indonesia and Eil Malk (Jellyfish Lake) in Palau.  I attaches to mangrove roots and logs along the lake shore and preys upon medusae.  The anemone is white and does not contain or make use of photosynthetic cells within its prey.  The unaffected cells are excreted with feces and become available for new medusae.  Attains column height of 2 inches.
