LEATHERY ANEMONE

Common on reef flats and slopes in clear water.  Low and embedded within hard reef, tentacles long and tapering, yellowish-tan or brown, often with purple tips, column with verrucae of same color.  Preferred by Amphiprion chrysopterus.  Indonesia to Japan and French Polynesia, excluding Hawaii.  Replaced by Heteractis crispa in the Indian Ocean and Red Sea.
