HAWAIIAN MUSSEL
NAHAWELE LI‘I LI‘I
| Abundant as colonies on rock exposed to wave action on benches and
subtidally to 10 feet. On flat surfaces, sand and algal turf fills
gaps between each shell. Purplish-brown with a somewhat pearly
interior, fading red, yellow, and white. Fragments are common in
beach sand. Attains 1.2 inches, 30 mm.
Endemic to Hawaii. |
