BLACK PURSE SHELL   NAHAWELE

Common as colonies in rocky crevices of the splash zone.  The dull black shells have jagged layers and attain 1.5 inch.   Endemic to Hawaii.  The species name was given before a labeling error was discovered.  Formerly known as Isognomon californicum.
