WAIKIKI SCALLOP

Rare in sand at any depth, with most specimens dredged from deep water.  The upper valve is strongly inflated, while the lower valve is slightly convex, presumably an adaptation for stability.  Attains 2 inches, 50 mm.  Endemic to Hawaii.
