Common in silty sand of southern Kaneohe Bay until sewage was diverted to Kailua bay in 1977.  Exterior pattern variable.  Attains 2 inches.  Introduced to Hawaii & North America from the Indo-Pacific.  Harvested commercially in many parts of the world.  Formerly known as Tapes japonica and Venerupis philippinarum.
