BANDED
MARBLE CONE 
| Uncommon on hard reef or buried in sand pockets
at any depth, where it preys upon cone shells. It has a
potentially fatal sting. The spire is low and coronated, body whorl
narrowing toward the base, black tents irregular in size, concentrated
into several vague bands. The animal is tan with brown mottling.
Attains 6 inches, 150 mm. South Africa to Japan, Niue, and Hawaii.
Formerly considered a subspecies of Conus
marmoreus. |
