TILED HOOF SHELL

Common in groups on rocks at any depth.  Shell often badly eroded, subcircular with radiating ribs granulated by spiral threads, periostracum hair sparse, apex slightly posterior of center, tan with reddish brown interior.  Attains 0.4 inch, 10mm.  Endemic to Hawaii.  Formerly known as Hipponix imbricatus.
