Sabia conica

CONICAL HOOF SHELL

Found attached to snails, usually several on one host.  Apex within the shell margin, with strong ribs.  Attains 1/2 inch.  May feed upon feces of host snail or hermit crab.  Leaves deep scar and shelly plate on host shell.  Sabia australis differs having the apex beyond the shell margin and weak ribs.  Hawaii & the Indo-Pacific.
