OLIVE RIDLEY SEA TURTLE

Rarely seen around Hawaii as it tends to remain offshore.  It feeds upon a variety of invertebrates and seaweed.  Mass nesting occurs on selected beaches of Central America.  This was the most common sea turtle but were heavily overexploited before laws were passed.  Attains length of 2.5 feet and lifespan of at least 30 years.  Photos of rescued animal taken at the NMFS facility in Honolulu.
