RED-TIPPED, ORNATE, or BLACKLINE FIREWORM

Common on silty sand and rubble.  Variable in color, comb-like crest (caruncle) on head, clusters of long stiff bristles may have red tips.  Attains at least 2 inches.  Bermuda, Gulf of Mexico, North Carolina to Brazil.  Records from the Eastern Pacific and Red Sea may be a related species or introduction.
