Entacmaea medusivora
JELLY-EATING ANEMONE
Restricted to Kakaban Lake, Indonesia and Eil Malk (Jellyfish
Lake) in Palau. I attaches to mangrove roots and logs along the
lake shore and preys upon medusae. The anemone is white and does not
contain or make use of photosynthetic cells within its prey. The
unaffected cells are excreted with feces and become available for new
medusae. Attains column height of 2 inches. |
