SAND ANEMONE
| Rare in sandy rubble at any depth, formerly common in Kaneohe Bay and Ma'alaea Bay.
White with orange, green, blue, or violet fluorescence, often with white
elaborations and purple tips. Attains 12 inches but usually
much less. Sometimes accompanied by
the tiny commensal
shrimp, Thor amboinensis, or juvenile Hawaiian
Dascyllus. Hawaii, East Indian Ocean & the Tropical Pacific.
It is unclear if this is a form of
Heteractis aurora. |
