Palythoa mutuki
WHITESTRIPE ZOANTHID
Locally common attached to rubble or rock in very shallow water,
especially bays.
Yellow or brown polyps 3cm tall and uncrowded, green disc with bold white ray extending from
mouth to rim, white knobs between long tentacles, body wall containing
sand. Attains disc diameter of 2cm. Formerly
known as Palythoa psammophilia. Avoid contact since it may
contain deadly
Palytoxin. Persian Gulf to Hawaii. |
