Stylobates aeneus

Oahu, 1000 feet

SHELL-BEARING ANEMONE

Commensal with Doflein's Hermit Crab, Sympagurus dofleini, at depths around 1000 feet.  The anemone forms a gold coiled proteinaceus shell which grows along with the hermit, negating the need to change shells.  Hawaii and the Marianas.
