| Locally common in the middle reaches of pristine streams attached to
algae-covered boulders. Shell dark brown or black with raised
pustules and a white aperture. Threatened with extinction due to
water diversion and streambed alteration. State law
prohibits commercial sale of this edible delicacy. Attains nearly 2
inches, 50 mm. Endemic to Hawaii. Formerly known as Neritina
granosa. |
