WAXY COWRY

Rare under dead coral deeper than 60 feet.  The orange dorsum has small diffuse white spots, and faint brown spots around the pitted white base.  Mature shells have a semi-opaque overglaze.  Attains 1.8 inches, 46 mm.  Coral Sea to Hawaii.  Hawaiian shells are referred to as form marielae.  Formerly known as Cypraea cernica.
